We are located in the heart of Monsey, NY, and have earned a reputation for our high checking standards and quality products. We carry a large inventory of Mezuzos and Mezuzah covers at varying price points.
We Service all of Rockland County, Bergen County, Westchester County, Passaic NJ, Teaneck NJ, Englewood NJ, Bergenfield NJ, and pretty much the whole Tri-State area*.
At the Sofer Center, we recognize that people are busy and may prefer to leave some things to the experts. This is why we created our Mezuzah House Call service.
As part of this service, a Certified Sofer will come to your home, remove your Mezuzahs, and take them to be checked. Once checked, he will return to re-affix them on your doorposts, placing them in accordance with Halachah.
A Mezuzah is only considered Kosher if it is placed on the correct side of the doorpost and at the correct height. The Shulchan Aruch provides general guidelines for correct Mezuzah placement; however, as outlined in the Shulchan Aruch there are numerous situations where the placement of a Mezuzah will deviate from the general guidelines.
Some factors that can affect Mezuzah placement are the size of the room, the nature of the surrounding rooms, the flow of foot traffic, and the direction the door swings. Unsurprisingly, it is our experience that over 50% of the homes that we visit have at least one Mezuzah incorrectly placed.
There are also other Halachic and practical issues that should be considered. Just to name a few,
-Mezuzahs on walk-in closets inside of bedrooms should be double wrapped,
-The more Mehudar Mezuzos should be placed on doors that require a Mezuzah vs doorways or entranceways which are just a stringency.
-Mezuzahs that will be subject to extreme temperatures or humidity should be placed in special cases.
